HALF MOON BAY - Dogs on a leash are allowed on SURFER'S BEACH and on POPLAR BEACH at the west end of Poplar St. From Highway 1, turn west on Poplar Avenue (south of Highway 92) in Half Moon Bay. Information: 650-726 8297  MAVERICKS - From Highway 1, take Capistrano Road to Pillar Point Harbor (650) 563-9060. Park in the lot and walk to the end of the trail. Mavericks is widely considered the best big wave in the world but don’t bother unless you’re in the ASP Top 20, or a mad-dog local. MONTARA STATE BEACH - Located 8 miles north of Half Moon Bay on Highway 1. There are two beach access points. The first access point is across from Second Street, immediately south of the Outrigger Restaurant. The second access point is about a 1/2 mile north on the ocean side of Highway 1. Both access points have steep paths down to the beach. PESCADERO - Located 17.5 miles south of Half Moon Bay and 3 miles south of Pescadero on Highway One. Dogs on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed on BEAN HOLLOW STATE BEACH.  PACIFICA - Dogs are allowed off-leash on an area of the beach. Entrance via stairs at the end of Esplanade, north of Manor Drive.
